Surah Alms Giving [Al-Maun] Ayah 7 Location Maccah Number 107

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ﴿١﴾

Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?

Transliteration

Araayta allathee yukaththibu bialddeeni

Ahmed Ali

HAVE YOU SEEN him who denies the Day of Judgement?

Ahmed Raza Khan

Just look at him, who belies the religion!

Hast thou seen him who cries lies to the Doom?

Daryabadi

Beholdest thou him who belieth the Requital?

Hilali & Khan

Have you seen him who denies the Recompense?

Itani

Have you considered him who denies the religion?

Did you see him who gives the lie to the Reward and Punishment of the Hereafter?

Have you seen him who denies Ad-Din

Hast thou observed him who belieth religion?

Have you seen he who belied the Recompense?

Have you seen one who denies the Day of Judgement?

Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)?

فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ﴿٢﴾

For that is the one who drives away the orphan

Transliteration

Fathalika allathee yaduAAAAu alyateema

Ahmed Ali

It is he who pushes the orphan away,

Ahmed Raza Khan

So it is he, who pushes away the orphan,

That is he who repulses the orphan

Daryabadi

It is he who pusheth away the orphan,

Hilali & Khan

That is he who repulses the orphan (harshly),

Itani

It is he who mistreats the orphan.

Maududi

Such is the one who repulses the orphans away,

Mubarakpuri

That is he who repulses the orphan,

That is he who repelleth the orphan,

That is the one, who drives away the orphan,

It is he who turns away the orphan

It is he who turns down the orphans

That is the one who treats the orphan with harshness,

Who turns away the orphan,

Yusuf Ali

Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness),

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ﴿٣﴾

And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.

Transliteration

Wala yahuddu AAala taAAami almiskeeni

Ahmed Ali

And does not induce others to feed the needy.

Ahmed Raza Khan

And does not urge to feed the needy.

Arberry

and urges not the feeding of the needy.

Daryabadi

And urgeth not the feeding of the poor,

Hilali & Khan

And urges not the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor),

Itani

And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.

Maududi

and urges not the feeding of the needy.

Mubarakpuri

And urges not the feeding of Al-Miskin.

And urgeth not the feeding of the needy.

and does not urge the feeding of the needy.

and does not urge others to feed the needy.

and never encourages the feeding of the destitute.

And does not urge (others) to feed the poor.

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ ﴿٤﴾

So woe to those who pray

Transliteration

Fawaylun lilmusalleena

Ahmed Ali

Woe to those who pray

So ruin is to those offerers of prayer –

So woe to those that pray

Woe, therefore, Unto such performers of prayer.

So woe unto those performers of Salat (prayers) (hypocrites),

So woe to those who pray.

Woe, then, to those who pray,

So, woe unto those performers of Salah,

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ ﴿٥﴾

[But] who are heedless of their prayer -

Transliteration

Allatheena hum AAan salatihim sahoona

Ahmed Ali

But who are oblivious of their moral duties,

Ahmed Raza Khan

Those who are neglectful of their prayer.

Arberry

and are heedless of their prayers,

Daryabadi

As are of their prayer careless.

Hilali & Khan

Who delay their Salat (prayer) from their stated fixed times,

Itani

Those who are heedless of their prayers.

Maududi

but are heedless in their Prayers,

Mubarakpuri

Those who with their Salah are Sahun.

Who are heedless of their prayer;

but are heedless of their prayers

who are heedless of their prayers (delaying them from their prescribed times),

who become confused during their prayers,

Who are unmindful of their prayers,

but whose hearts are not in their prayer.

Who are neglectful of their prayers,

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ ﴿٦﴾

Those who make show [of their deeds]

Transliteration

Allatheena hum yuraoona

Ahmed Ali

Who dissimulate

Ahmed Raza Khan

Those who make a display (of their deeds).

to those who make display

Daryabadi

They who would be seen,

Hilali & Khan

Those who do good deeds only to be seen (of men),

Itani

Those who put on the appearance.

Maududi

those who do good (in order) to be seen,

Those who do good deeds only to be seen,

Who would be seen (at worship)

—who show off

who show off,

who show off (his good deeds)

Who do (good) to be seen,

Those who do things only to be seen by others.

Those who (want but) to be seen (of men),

وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ ﴿٧﴾

And withhold [simple] assistance.

Transliteration

WayamnaAAoona almaAAoona

Ahmed Ali

And withhold things of common use (from others).

And do not let others ask for small utilities.

and refuse charity.

And who withholds even common necessaries.

Hilali & Khan

And refuse Al-Ma'un (small kindnesses e.g. salt, sugar, water, etc.).

And withhold the assistance.

and deny people the articles of common necessity.

And withhold Al-Ma`un.

Yet refuse small kindnesses!

but deny aid.

and prevent the utensils of assistance.

and refuse to help the needy.

And withhold the necessaries of life.

Who are uncharitable even over very small things.

But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs.
