Surah The morning hours [Ad-Dhuha] Ayah 11 Location Maccah Number 93

وَٱلضُّحَىٰ ﴿١﴾

By the morning brightness

Transliteration

Waaldduha

Ahmed Ali

I CALL TO witness the early hours of morning,

Ahmed Raza Khan

By oath of the late morning,

Arberry

By the white forenoon

Daryabadi

By the morning brightness,

Hilali & Khan

By the forenoon (after sun-rise);

Itani

By the morning light.

Maududi

By the bright forenoon,

Mubarakpuri

By the forenoon.

By the midmorning,

Sarwar

By the midday brightness

Shakir

I swear by the early hours of the day,

Wahiduddin Khan

By the glorious morning light;

By the Glorious Morning Light,

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ﴿٢﴾

And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,

Transliteration

Waallayli itha saja

Ahmed Ali

And the night when dark and still,

Ahmed Raza Khan

And by oath of the night when it covers,

Arberry

and the brooding night!

Daryabadi

By the night when it darkeneth,

Hilali & Khan

And by the night when it is still (or darkens);

Itani

And the night as it settles.

Maududi

and by the night when it covers the world with peace:

Mubarakpuri

By the night when it darkens.

And by the night when it is stillest,

and by the night when it is calm!

and by the night when it covers,

Sarwar

and by the calm of night,

And the night when it covers with darkness.

and by the night when it darkens,

And by the Night when it is still,-

مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ﴿٣﴾

Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].

Transliteration

Ma waddaAAaka rabbuka wama qala

Ahmed Ali

Your Lord has neither left you, nor despises you.

Ahmed Raza Khan

Your Lord has not forsaken you nor does He dislike you!

Arberry

Thy Lord has neither forsaken thee nor hates thee

Daryabadi

Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

Hilali & Khan

Your Lord (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) has neither forsaken you nor hated you.

Itani

Your Lord did not abandon you, nor did He forget.

Maududi

(O Prophet), your Lord has neither forsaken you, nor is He displeased.

Mubarakpuri

Your Lord has neither forsaken you nor hates you.

Pickthall

Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,

Qarai

Your Lord has neither forsaken you, nor is He displeased with you,

Qaribullah & Darwish

your Lord has not forsaken you (Prophet Muhammad), nor does He hate you.

Sarwar

(Muhammad), your Lord has not abandoned you (by not sending you His revelation), nor is He displeased with you.

Shakir

Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He become displeased,

Wahiduddin Khan

your Lord has not forsaken you, nor is He displeased with you,

Yusuf Ali

Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

وَلَلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿٤﴾

And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].

Transliteration

Walalakhiratu khayrun laka mina aloola

Ahmed Ali

What is to come is better for you than what has gone before;

Ahmed Raza Khan

And indeed the latter is better for you than the former.

Arberry

and the Last shall be better for thee than the First.

Daryabadi

And the Hereafter is indeed better Unto thee than the life present.

Hilali & Khan

And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world).

Itani

The Hereafter is better for you than the First.

Maududi

Indeed what is to come will be better for you than what has gone by.

Mubarakpuri

And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present.

Pickthall

And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,

Qarai

and the Hereafter shall be better for you than the world.

Qaribullah & Darwish

The Last shall be better for you than the First.

Sarwar

The reward in the next life will certainly be better for you than worldly gains.

Shakir

And surely what comes after is better for you than that which has gone before.

and the Hereafter will indeed be better for you than the present life;

And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.

وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰٓ ﴿٥﴾

And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.

Transliteration

Walasawfa yuAAteeka rabbuka fatarda

Ahmed Ali

For your Lord will certainly give you, and you will be content.

Ahmed Raza Khan

And indeed your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. (Allah seeks to please the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.)

Arberry

Thy Lord shall give thee, and thou shalt be satisfied.

Daryabadi

And presently thy Lord shall give Unto thee so that thou shalt be be well-pleased.

Hilali & Khan

And verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased.

Itani

And your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.

Maududi

Verily your Lord will soon give you so amply that you will be well-pleased.

Mubarakpuri

And verily, your Lord will give you so that you shall be well-pleased.

Pickthall

And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.

Qarai

Soon your Lord will give you [that with which] you will be pleased.

Qaribullah & Darwish

Your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.

Sarwar

Your Lord will soon grant you sufficient favors to please you.

Shakir

And soon will your Lord give you so that you shall be well pleased.

soon you will be gratified with what your Lord will give you.

And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.

أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًۭا فَـَٔاوَىٰ ﴿٦﴾

Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?

Transliteration

Alam yajidka yateeman faawa

Ahmed Ali

Did He not find you an orphan and take care of you?

Ahmed Raza Khan

Did He not find you an orphan, so provided you shelter?

Did He not find thee an orphan, and shelter thee?

Found He not thee an orphan, so He sheltered thee?

Did He not find you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) an orphan and gave you a refuge?

Did He not find you orphaned, and sheltered you?

Did He not find you an orphan and then gave you shelter?

Did He not find you an orphan and gave you a refuge

وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآلًّۭا فَهَدَىٰ ﴿٧﴾

And He found you lost and guided [you],

Transliteration

Wawajadaka dallan fahada

Ahmed Ali

Did He not find you perplexed, and show you the way?

Ahmed Raza Khan

And found you deeply engrossed in His love, so directed you?

Did He not find thee erring, and guide thee?

Daryabadi

And He found thee wandering, so He guided thee,

And He found you unaware (of the Quran, its legal laws, and Prophethood, etc.) and guided you?

And found you wandering, and guided you.

Did He not find you unaware of the Right Way, and then directed you to it?

And He found you unaware and guided you

Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee)?

Did He not find you astray, and guide you?

Did He not find you a wanderer so He guided you?

Did He not find you wandering about and give you guidance?

And find you lost (that is, unrecognized by men) and guide (them to you)?

Did He not find you wandering, and give you guidance?

And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.

وَوَجَدَكَ عَآئِلًۭا فَأَغْنَىٰ ﴿٨﴾

And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.

Transliteration

Wawajadaka AAailan faaghna

Ahmed Ali

Did He not find you poor and enrich you?

Ahmed Raza Khan

And found you in need, so made you prosperous?

Arberry

Did He not find thee needy, and suffice thee?

Daryabadi

And He found thee destitute, so He enriched thee.

Hilali & Khan

And He found you poor, and made you rich (selfsufficient with selfcontentment, etc.)?

Itani

And found you in need, and enriched you?

Maududi

And did He not find you in want, and then enriched you?

Mubarakpuri

And He found you poor and made you rich

Pickthall

Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee)?

Did He not find you needy, and enrich you?

Did He not find you poor and suffice you?

And did He not find you in need and make you rich?

And find you in want and make you to be free from want?

Did He not find you in want, and make you free from want?

And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.

فَأَمَّا ٱلْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ ﴿٩﴾

So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].

Transliteration

Faamma alyateema fala taqhar

Ahmed Ali

So do not oppress the orphan,

Ahmed Raza Khan

Therefore do not oppress the orphan.

Arberry

As for the orphan, do not oppress him,

Daryabadi

Wherefore as to the orphan, be thou not Unto him overbearing.

Hilali & Khan

Therefore, treat not the orphan with oppression,

Itani

Therefore, do not mistreat the orphan.

Maududi

Therefore, be not harsh with the orphan;

Mubarakpuri

Therefore, treat not the orphan with oppression.

Pickthall

Therefor the orphan oppress not,

So, as for the orphan, do not oppress him;

Do not oppress the orphan,

Do not oppress the orphans

Shakir

Therefore, as for the orphan, do not oppress (him).

Therefore do not treat the orphan with harshness,

Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,

وَأَمَّا ٱلسَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ ﴿١٠﴾

And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].

Transliteration

Waamma alssaila fala tanhar

Ahmed Ali

And do not drive the beggar away,

Ahmed Raza Khan

And do not rebuke the beggar.

Arberry

and as for the beggar, scold him not;

Daryabadi

And as to the beggar, chide thou him not.

Hilali & Khan

And repulse not the beggar;

Itani

Nor rebuff the seeker.

Maududi

and chide not him who asks,

Mubarakpuri

And repulse not the one who asks.

Pickthall

Therefor the beggar drive not away,

Qarai

and as for the beggar, do not chide him;

Qaribullah & Darwish

nor drive away the one who asks.

Sarwar

and do not reject the beggars

Shakir

And as for him who asks, do not chide (him),

Wahiduddin Khan

and do not chide the one who asks for help;

Yusuf Ali

Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard);

وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ ﴿١١﴾

But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].

Transliteration

Waamma biniAAmati rabbika fahaddith

Ahmed Ali

And keep recounting the favours of your Lord.

Ahmed Raza Khan

And abundantly proclaim the favours of your Lord.

Arberry

and as for thy Lord's blessing, declare it.

Daryabadi

And as to the favour of thine Lord discourse thou thereof.

Hilali & Khan

And proclaim the Grace of your Lord (i.e. the Prophethood and all other Graces).

Itani

But proclaim the blessings of your Lord.

Maududi

and proclaim the bounty of your Lord.

Mubarakpuri

And proclaim the grace of your Lord.

Pickthall

Therefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse.

Qarai

and as for your Lord’s blessing, proclaim it!

Qaribullah & Darwish

But tell of the favors of your Lord!

Sarwar

and proclaim the bounties of your Lord.

Shakir

And as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it).

Wahiduddin Khan

but proclaim the blessings of your Lord.

Yusuf Ali

But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!
