Surah The Chargers [Al-Adiyat] Ayah 11 Location Maccah Number 100

وَٱلْعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبْحًۭا ﴿١﴾

By the racers, panting,

Transliteration

WaalAAadiyati dabhan

Ahmed Ali

I CALL TO witness the chargers, snorting, rushing to battle before the others,

Ahmed Raza Khan

By oath of those that sprint, breathing heavily. (The horses used in Holy War.)

Arberry

By the snorting chargers,

Daryabadi

By the chargers panting,

Hilali & Khan

By the (steeds) that run, with panting (breath),

Itani

By the racers panting.

Maududi

By (the horses) that charge snorting,

Mubarakpuri

By the `Adiyat (steeds), snorting.

Pickthall

By the snorting courses,

Qarai

By the snorting chargers,

Qaribullah & Darwish

By the snorting runners (the horses),

Sarwar

(I swear) by the snorting chargers (of the warriors), whose hoofs strike against the rocks

Shakir

I swear by the runners breathing pantingly,

Wahiduddin Khan

By the snorting, panting horses,

Yusuf Ali

By the (Steeds) that run, with panting (breath),

فَٱلْمُورِيَٰتِ قَدْحًۭا ﴿٢﴾

And the producers of sparks [when] striking

Transliteration

Faalmooriyati qadhan

Ahmed Ali

Then those striking sparks of fire,

Ahmed Raza Khan

Striking stones with their hooves, sparking fire.

Arberry

by the strikers of fire,

Daryabadi

And striking off fire by dashing their hoofs.

Hilali & Khan

Striking sparks of fire (by their hooves),

Itani

Igniting sparks.

Maududi

then raise sparks of fire (by their hoofs),

Mubarakpuri

Striking sparks of fire.

Striking sparks of fire

Qarai

by the strikers of sparks [with their hoofs],

Qaribullah & Darwish

by the strikers of fire,

Sarwar

and produce sparks

Shakir

Then those that produce fire striking,

Wahiduddin Khan

striking sparks of fire with their hooves,

Yusuf Ali

And strike sparks of fire,

فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًۭا ﴿٣﴾

And the chargers at dawn,

Transliteration

Faalmugheerati subhan

Ahmed Ali

Then those charging in the morning

Ahmed Raza Khan

And by oath of those who raid at dawn.

by the dawn-raiders

Daryabadi

And raiding at dawn

Hilali & Khan

And scouring to the raid at dawn

Itani

Raiding at dawn.

Maududi

then raid by the dawn,

Mubarakpuri

And scouring to the raid at dawn.

Pickthall

And scouring to the raid at dawn,

Qarai

by the raiders at dawn,

Qaribullah & Darwish

by the dawnraiders,

Sarwar

while running during a raid at dawn,

Shakir

Then those that make raids at morn,

Wahiduddin Khan

as they gallop to make raids at dawn,

Yusuf Ali

And push home the charge in the morning,

فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًۭا ﴿٤﴾

Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust,

Transliteration

Faatharna bihi naqAAan

Ahmed Ali

Raising clouds of dust,

Ahmed Raza Khan

So thereupon raising dust.

Arberry

blazing a trail of dust,

Daryabadi

And therein raising dust.

Hilali & Khan

And raise the dust in clouds the while,

Itani

Raising clouds of dust.

Maududi

and blaze a trail of dust,

Mubarakpuri

And raise the dust in clouds the while.

Pickthall

Then, therewith, with their trail of dust,

Qarai

raising therein a trail of dust,

Qaribullah & Darwish

raising a trail of dust,

Sarwar

and leave behind a cloud of dust

Shakir

Then thereby raise dust,

Wahiduddin Khan

and raising clouds of dust,

Yusuf Ali

And raise the dust in clouds the while,

فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا ﴿٥﴾

Arriving thereby in the center collectively,

Transliteration

Fawasatna bihi jamAAan

Ahmed Ali

Penetrating deep into the armies,

Ahmed Raza Khan

Then penetrate to the centre of the enemy army.

Arberry

cleaving there with a host!

Daryabadi

And cleaving their way therein into the host,

Hilali & Khan

Penetrating forthwith as one into the midst (of the foe);

Itani

Storming into the midst.

Maududi

and penetrate deep into a host.

Mubarakpuri

And penetrating forthwith as one into the midst.

Pickthall

Cleaving, as one, the centre (of the foe),

Qarai

and cleaving therein a host!

Qaribullah & Darwish

dividing the gathering.

Sarwar

which engulfs the enemy.

Shakir

Then rush thereby upon an assembly:

Wahiduddin Khan

forcing their way into the midst of the enemy,

Yusuf Ali

And penetrate forthwith into the midst (of the foe) en masse;-

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌۭ ﴿٦﴾

Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful.

Transliteration

Inna alinsana lirabbihi lakanoodun

Ahmed Ali

That man is ungrateful to his Lord

Ahmed Raza Khan

Indeed man is very ungrateful towards his Lord.

Arberry

Surely Man is ungrateful to his Lord,

Daryabadi

Verily man is Unto his Lord ungrateful.

Hilali & Khan

Verily! Man (disbeliever) is ungrateful to his Lord;

Itani

Indeed, the human being is ungrateful to his Lord.

Maududi

Verily man is most ungrateful to his Lord;

Mubarakpuri

Verily, man is ungrateful to his Lord.

Pickthall

Lo! man is an ingrate unto his Lord

Qarai

Indeed man is ungrateful to his Lord,

Qaribullah & Darwish

Indeed, the human is ungrateful to his Lord.

Sarwar

The human being is certainly ungrateful to his Lord.

Shakir

Most surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.

Wahiduddin Khan

surely, man is ungrateful to his Lord.

Yusuf Ali

Truly man is, to his Lord, ungrateful;

وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌۭ ﴿٧﴾

And indeed, he is to that a witness.

Transliteration

Wainnahu AAala thalika lashaheedun

Ahmed Ali

And is himself witness to it,

Ahmed Raza Khan

And indeed he himself is a witness to it.

Arberry

and surely he is a witness against that!

Daryabadi

And verily to that he is witness.

Hilali & Khan

And to that fact he bears witness (by his deeds);

Itani

And he bears witness to that.

Maududi

and he himself is a witness to that,

Mubarakpuri

And to that He bears witness.

Pickthall

And lo! he is a witness unto that;

Qarai

and indeed he is [himself] witness to that!

Qaribullah & Darwish

To this he himself shall bear witness.

Sarwar

He himself knows this very well.

Shakir

And most surely he is a witness of that.

Wahiduddin Khan

He himself bears witness to that.

Yusuf Ali

And to that (fact) he bears witness (by his deeds);

وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿٨﴾

And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.

Transliteration

Wainnahu lihubbi alkhayri lashadeedun

Ahmed Ali

And is intractable in his love of worldly goods.

Ahmed Raza Khan

And indeed he loves wealth to the extreme.

Arberry

Surely he is passionate in his love for good things.

Daryabadi

And verily in the love of wealth he is vehement,

Hilali & Khan

And verily, he is violent in the love of wealth.

Itani

And he is fierce in his love of wealth.

Maududi

and surely he loves riches with a passionate loving.

Mubarakpuri

And verily, he is violent in the love of wealth.

Pickthall

And lo! in the love of wealth he is violent.

Qarai

And indeed he is an avid lover of wealth.

Qaribullah & Darwish

And indeed he is ardent for the love of good (wealth, becoming greedy).

Sarwar

He certainly has a strong love for wealth and riches.

Shakir

And most surely he is tenacious in the love of wealth.

Wahiduddin Khan

Surely, he is ardent in his love of wealth.

Yusuf Ali

And violent is he in his love of wealth.

۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ ﴿٩﴾

But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered

Transliteration

Afala yaAAlamu itha buAAthira ma fee alquboori

Ahmed Ali

Does he not know when the contents of the graves are laid bare

Ahmed Raza Khan

So does he not know? When those in the graves are raised,

Arberry

Knows he not that when that which is in the tombs is over-thrown,

Daryabadi

Knoweth he not - when that which is in the graves, shall be ransacked?

Hilali & Khan

Knows he not that when the contents of the graves are brought out and poured forth (all mankind is resurrected).

Itani

Does he not know? When the contents of the graves are scattered around.

Maududi

Is he not aware that when whatever lies (buried) in the graves is overthrown;

Mubarakpuri

Knows he not that when the contents of the graves are poured forth

Pickthall

Knoweth he not that, when the contents of the graves are poured forth

Qarai

Does he not know, when what is [buried] in the graves is turned over,

Qaribullah & Darwish

Does he not know that when that which is in the graves is overthrown,

Sarwar

Does he not know that on the day when those in the graves are resurrected

Shakir

Does he not then know when what is in the graves is raised,

Wahiduddin Khan

Is he not aware of the time when the contents of the graves will be brought out?

Yusuf Ali

Does he not know,- when that which is in the graves is scattered abroad

وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ ﴿١٠﴾

And that within the breasts is obtained,

Transliteration

Wahussila ma fee alssudoori

Ahmed Ali

And the secrets of the hearts exposed,

Ahmed Raza Khan

And all what lies in the breasts is opened –

Arberry

and that which is in the breasts is brought out --

Daryabadi

And there shall be brounht to light that which is in the breasts?

Hilali & Khan

And that which is in the breasts (of men) shall be made known.

Itani

And the contents of the hearts are obtained.

Maududi

and the secrets of the hearts are laid bare (and examined)?

Mubarakpuri

And that which is in the breasts shall be made known

Pickthall

And the secrets of the breasts are made known,

Qarai

and what is [concealed] in the breasts is divulged,

Qaribullah & Darwish

and that which is in the chest is brought out,

Sarwar

and all that is in the hearts is made public,

Shakir

And what is in the breasts is made apparent?

Wahiduddin Khan

And the hearts' contents shall be brought into the open?

Yusuf Ali

And that which is (locked up) in (human) breasts is made manifest-

إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّخَبِيرٌۢ ﴿١١﴾

Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted.

Transliteration

Inna rabbahum bihim yawmaithin lakhabeerun

Ahmed Ali

Surely their Lord will be aware of their (deeds).

Ahmed Raza Khan

On that day their Lord surely knows all about them!

Arberry

surely on that day their Lord shall be aware of them!

Daryabadi

Verily their Lord on that Day will be of them Aware.

Hilali & Khan

Verily, that Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) their Lord will be Well-Acquainted with them (as to their deeds), (and will reward them for their deeds).

Itani

Their Lord, on that Day, is fully informed of them.

Maududi

Surely on that Day will their Lord be fully informed about them.

Mubarakpuri

Verily, that Day their Lord will be Well-Acquainted with them.

Pickthall

On that day will their Lord be perfectly informed concerning them.

Qarai

on that day their Lord will be well informed about them [and their deeds]?

Qaribullah & Darwish

indeed, on that Day their Lord will be aware of them!

Sarwar

their Lord will examine his deeds?

Shakir

Most surely their Lord that day shall be fully aware of them.

Wahiduddin Khan

Surely, on that Day, they will know that their Lord had full knowledge of them all.

Yusuf Ali

That their Lord had been Well-acquainted with them, (even to) that Day?
