Surah The Clot [Al-Alaq] in English
ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ﴿1﴾
Read in the name of your Lord Who created,
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ ﴿2﴾
created man from a clinging clot.
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ ﴿3﴾
Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous,
ٱلَّذِی عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ ﴿4﴾
Who taught by the pen,
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمۡ یَعۡلَمۡ ﴿5﴾
taught man what he did not know[1].
كَلَّاۤ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَیَطۡغَىٰۤ ﴿6﴾
Indeed, man transgresses
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰۤ ﴿7﴾
when he deems himself to be self-sufficient.
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰۤ ﴿8﴾
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.
أَرَءَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِی یَنۡهَىٰ ﴿9﴾
Have you seen the one who prevents[2]
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰۤ ﴿10﴾
a slave [of Allah] from praying[3]?
أَرَءَیۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ ﴿11﴾
What if this [slave] is rightly guided,
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰۤ ﴿12﴾
and enjoins righteousness?
أَرَءَیۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰۤ ﴿13﴾
How about the one who denies and turns away[4]?
أَلَمۡ یَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَرَىٰ ﴿14﴾
Does he not know that Allah is watching all?
كَلَّا لَىِٕن لَّمۡ یَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِیَةِ ﴿15﴾
No indeed; if he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock[5]
نَاصِیَةࣲ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةࣲ ﴿16﴾
a lying, sinful forelock[6].
فَلۡیَدۡعُ نَادِیَهُۥ ﴿17﴾
So let him call his associates;
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِیَةَ ﴿18﴾
We will call the wardens of Hellfire[7].
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡ وَٱقۡتَرِب ۩ ﴿19﴾
No indeed; do not obey him, but prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
